Personal Interests

When Dr. Hwu is not practicing medicine, he enjoys playing basketball, running (short distances), hiking to breathtaking vistas, and dabbling in photography. He also enjoys playing the guitar. In addition, he goes on adventures with his wife to explore the northern Virginia and DC areas as they are both new here.

Dr. Hwu grew up in the small college town of Clemson, SC. From there, he studied Public Policy Studies at Duke University, and prior to attending medical school worked for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Cambridge, MA. He received his medial degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH, where he was closely involved with a free clinic to provide care to the under-served and went on a medical mission to Peru. He returned to the Boston area to complete his residency in Family Medicine at Tufts University-Cambridge Health Alliance where he served as chief resident. He is now completing his Sports Medicine fellowship at the VCU-Fairfax Family Practice program.
